Students will investigate the effects of natural compounds, such as turmeric, ginger, cumin, and cinnamon, on simulated diabetic blood and urine. To model hyperglycemic conditions, different amounts of glucose will be added to lab-created blood and urine samples. Students will then test the ability of these natural compounds to reduce glucose concentration by measuring glucose levels before and after treatment. The students will compare the effects of the four spices on both blood and urine, identifying variations in their effectiveness. Once the most effective compound for each fluid is determined, students will explore the impact of different concentrations of that compound. Findings will be based on experimental evidence, and students will draw conclusions accordingly. Additionally, students will propose ideas for further research. This project will provide insight into diabetes, a growing concern among youth, and explore how natural compounds may help in its prevention or management.
