This camp will focus on generating Monte Carlo simulations of events that could occur at the Large Hadron Collider. Participants will analyze these events by comparing histograms of various quantities to determine which best distinguishes signal from background. Based on this analysis, they will develop a series of selection criteria to effectively separate the two. If time permits, participants will also examine Monte Carlo data that has been processed through a detector simulation. This will provide insight into the complexities of real-world physics, including how to calculate efficiencies and account for systematic uncertainties. This is a two-week residential camp where students will stay on IMSA's Aurora campus.
