The Young Writers Summer Online Workshops provide young writers with a dynamic and supportive environment in which they can stretch their talents, discover new strengths, and challenge themselves in the company of peers who are also passionate about writing. Our online workshops offer an intimate setting for exploring ideas, producing fresh work, discussing the craft of writing (and rewriting) with instructors and other students, and finding one’s voice in a variety of genres, including short stories, poems, and essays. Additional events take place most days from 6:00-7:00 p.m. ET and include readings by visiting writers, craft talks, participant readings, and informal social gatherings.

Participants will reflect on their own experiences within sport and other performance domains – including how psychological factors have influenced their engagement/performance and how their involvement in these endeavors has impacted their personal psychology (future motivations, mental well-being, etc.) as well. Participants will learn about some common areas addressed in a consulting capacity, tools that can be used to address these areas, as well as professional domains in which these mental skills may be applied. Participants will also have opportunities to practice their observational skills through various formats (e.g., movies, engaging in activities, and watching sporting events) and connect with a diverse group of professionals in the field (e.g., private practice, professional sport, collegiate athletics, and possibly military).

At Athletic Training Camp, you will learn the basic concepts and the advanced techniques of the athletic training profession. You will be instructed in the skills of injury prevention, injury evaluation and diagnosis, rehabilitation, and functional injury progression. The concepts taught by our accredited program faculty in the classroom will be reinforced in the laboratory setting that very day. Campers will have the opportunity to complete numerous hands on skills and will be instructed on the most current techniques related to all forms of sports medicine and healthcare. Finally, camp participants have the opportunity to gain their CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification as part of our offerings on the final day. This track will take place on Friday morning and campers will pay an additional $30.

The first iteration of our “Ecology Academy” camp will provide high school students from northeastern Ohio an immersive field ecology program, providing hands-on experiences in wildlife rehabilitation, environmental education, and ecological research supported by near-peer mentorship from our Hiram College undergraduate students. Hiram student workers would engage and mentor visiting high school students. This 1-week residential program at Hiram College will equip students with essential skills in data collection, analysis, critical thinking, and science communication. Structured in three phases, students will gain foundational knowledge in ecology before specializing in areas such as forest management, water resource management, wildlife management, or land stewardship. The program integrates with ongoing research projects at James H. Barrow Biological Field Station, allowing students to work alongside professionals in real-world applications.
