Cornell Pre-College Online Three-Week Session 1

This world-class leadership development program, previously available only to Cornell University MBA students, combines Ivy League studies with an Adirondack adventure. Led by Karel Hilversum, the Dan Tillemans Director of the Cornell Team and Leadership Center (CTLC), along with professional CTLC facilitators and certified expedition guides, you'll spend a week on the Cornell campus exploring leadership theory, followed by five days in the Adirondack region of Northern New York canoeing, camping, and applying your leadership skills. During the first week, you'll participate in on-campus classes, introductory leadership development activities, personality style assessments, and multiple sessions at Cornell's renowned Hoffman Challenge Course. You'll study topics including leadership styles, team communication skills, and decision-making models. During the second week, you'll travel to the Adirondack Mountains for a five-day expedition that will include canoeing through world-class waterways, camping in amazing landscapes, hiking 3,000-foot peaks, experiencing classic Adirondack canoe carries, and rappelling down 85-foot rock walls. You'll learn backcountry skills such as navigation, camp craft, hiking, rappelling, and flatwater canoeing, and you'll rotate through the leadership roles required for a successful trek. Upon returning to campus, you'll wrap up this non-credit certificate program with a post-expedition celebration, one-on-one leadership coaching sessions, and final reflection activities.
