Learn about materials science and engineering at this free, week-long camp that features team-based, intensive problem-solving science experiences that are a unique blend of education and experimentation. Materials are the building blocks of civilizations, while advancements in technology are dependent on the available materials. Since materials science touches every aspect of engineering design, the study of materials provides opportunities for students to learn science and math in the context of diverse, real-world applications. The field of materials science and engineering offers career opportunities as boundless as the imagination, in just about every industry. This camp is for highly motivated students with an aptitude for math and science. Under the supervision of engineering experts, campers will learn how to safely use state-of-the-art research equipment and processes, including electron microscopy, heat treating, tensile testing of metals, synthesis of slime and foam polymers, composites, and liquid crystal thermometers.
