This course is an introduction to modern band performance styles (rock, pop, hip hop, R&B, etc.) and instrument techniques (keyboard, guitar, electric bass, drum kit, vocals). Course topics will be demonstrated through interactive lectures, guided practice, ensemble rehearsals, performances, and group assignments. No previous experience is required. All musical preferences and ability levels are welcome.

The Ithaca Writers Institute is a place where promising high school student writers come together to celebrate, study, and practice the creation of literature, laying the foundation for a successful life of writing. Taught by a distinguished faculty member of the College’s Department of Writing, with teaching assistance from the department’s most talented undergraduates, the curriculum mirrors the department’s own unique curriculum, giving aspiring young writers an immersive experience in an authentic college atmosphere.

Scholars Abroad is a two-week program (May 29 - June 12, 2024) designed for students entering their freshman year of college. The program is based in Porto Rafti, Greece, where students will reside and study in our Harding-owned apartment-style resort. Group tours in Greece are being planned for Athens, Corinth, Delphi, Sounion and Meteora.

The Pre-College Programs are designed for academically curious high school students interested in the intellectual challenge of Ivy League academics. Students enroll in credit-bearing undergraduate courses from a wide array of disciplines taught by Penn faculty, staff, and visiting scholars and are in class alongside other Penn undergrads. A majority of the courses are 1 credit until (c.u.)* unless the course has a required lab, and then the course is generally 1.5 c.u.

You will be out in the field during this course, developing your skills in nature observation and animal tracking in the context of modern ecology. You will become familiar with the details of the lives of local wildlife including coyotes, deer, foxes, raccoons, opossums, weasels, mice, and bobcats. Topics and skills covered include local natural history, wildlife habitat assessment, clear print track identification, wildlife conservation, and the role of humans in today's ecosystems.

Enjoy five days of advanced work in choral music and related fields, including music literature, sight-reading and group voice instruction. This program will help you prepare for college auditions, become a more secure singer, explore your other talents, and earn an hour of college credit.

College Intensive programs offer rising juniors and seniors the opportunity to earn college credit by engaging in challenging online undergraduate level courses. Grades earned establish an official academic record at GW and may be transferable, depending on the policies of the receiving institution.

This course will orient you to health, human performance, and wellness at the individual, group, and population levels. We will explore the structures and functions of the human body and the influence of contemporary biopsychosocial factors. You will participate in hands-on learning in a variety of campus-based labs and clinics in addition to learning about the diversity of health, human performance, and wellness professions and the foundations of effective interprofessional healthcare teams.

Stars, Galaxies, and the Universe is an introductory survey of the universe, its formation and evolution, the nature and origins of stars and galaxies, the origins of solar systems including our own, and how humans have come to our current understanding by applying the process of science. You will develop an understanding of basic principles and methods used in astronomy and astrophysics to study the universe through observation, measurement, evaluation of data, and development and testing of scientific theories. This is an introductory course that does not assume a science and mathematics background.

This nearly two-week-long summer program lets you experience college life, meet new friends, dive into cool STEM projects and basically have a blast using all the knowledge you’ve gained in 11 years of school.
