This summer, learn to navigate the college experience with the University of Maryland’s Terp Young Scholars. During three remarkable weeks, academically talented students pursue an academic interest, engage with passionate faculty, and get a jump on college by earning three university credits.

Our Writing and Literature Track encourages writers to find their voice and share it with the world. Students will spend their mornings learning from Barnard instructors in courses such as The Art of the Essay, Writing New York, and playwriting, on the same campus where writers like Greta Gerwig, Zora Neale Hurson, Jhumpa Lahiri got their start. Afternoons will be spent in intensives focused on developing a writing portfolio, getting published, and careers for writers.

Explore the vibrant world of visual and performing arts in this track. Dive into a journey that blends the rich history of art with the dynamic world of dance, where creativity, expression, and historical understanding come alive.

Barnard’s 3-Week Sustainable Food and the City introduces students to the U.S food system, examining food production, distribution, consumption, and waste management through four key lenses: agriculture; health, policy and justice; food systems and climate change; and soil health. Each week, students will explore farms all across the city and New York state to learn hands-on from farmers growing our food. The program will invite experts and professionals from each unit to guide student's learning experience. Students will take a deep dive into each of these units to imagine a food system that produces food in an ecologically mindful way while supporting our communities and the planet.

Exploring important issues surrounding the politics of identity.

Monday through Friday, students will join their virtual classrooms to refine their academic skills through a variety of activities—class discussions, debates, simulations, individual and group projects, Student Life workshops, and more.

Improve fundamental skills including passing, setting, serving, attacking, blocking and individual defense. Commuter and overnight camp options available.

This Hitting program is geared towards girls, ages 12-18, of all abilities.

The Clazz String Intensive is designed to introduce classically trained string players to the art of improvisation through the pedagogical ideals of jazz and musical languages from other cultures.

Professional chamber musicians will coach trios, quartets, and quintets in this wonderful music form where compositions are performed by and written for one player for each part. Culminating event: concert.

Participants will study philosophers, humanists, and poets, such as Plato, Thomas More, and Shakespeare. The program ends with a theater production, where all students bring together two weeks of study to produce and perform a Shakespearean play.
