NASA and Mad Science collaborate to educate the next generation! Children go on a voyage of discovery to space with unique hands-on activities and amazing demonstrations. They explore the sun and stars, space technology, rocket science, the atmosphere, planets and moons, supernovas and more!

Shiver me timbers! Travel with Jack and Annie as they meet Polly the Parrot and Captain Bones in the Caribbean Sea. Will they find treasure? Learn about their adventure and if pirates really do exist! Book and research guide provided.

Safety Town is a nationally-accredited program designed to teach children how to play safe and stay safe. Children will develop confidence and knowledge they need during the beginning of their first years in school. The course will be taught at the Early Childhood Center by St. Charles City Police Officers, Park Rangers, Paramedics, Firefighters, Animal Control Officers and trained staff and volunteers from the Early Childhood Center. The program uses a simulated city layout, a classroom facility and an off-campus field trip to provide kids with “real life” events and teach kids to evaluate “safe” from “unsafe” situations, and how to react safely. Space is limited and early enrollment is encouraged.

STEM Camp will provide student learning and enrichment through blending the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. A focus on creativity, collaboration, communication and critical thinking skills will provide students the opportunity to solve real world problems.

Elementary Robotics and Programming Camp will incorporate critical thinking and problem solving through the building, programming and engineering of robots. The program will also focus on team building skills through effective collaboration and communication skills.

During this engaging and hands-on event, girls will have the unique opportunity to step into the fascinating world of automobile design. From learning about the various car parts and their functions to exploring the secrets of aerodynamics and safety features, our young Girl Scouts will discover what it takes to design and build safe, efficient, and stylish automobiles.

After “adopting” their very own plush puppy, students will role- play the key responsibilities of a veterinarian, including how to properly perform a nose-to-tail exam. These future veterinarians will learn how to sew stitches, remove ticks, make healthy treats, and vaccinate their dog. Students will role-play the key staff functions performed at a veterinary office and how to keep their “adopted” plush puppy healthy. These future veterinarians will explore digestion, the different parts of the canine eye, animal body language and how X-rays are used to diagnose and treat common illnesses.

Students will role-play the key responsibilities of a veterinarian and perform a whiskers-to-tail exam on their newly “adopted” plush cat. These future veterinarians will learn about animal body language, maintaining a healthy environment such as proper litterbox placement, create a cat toy, and design a vet clinic.

Our STEM Sleuths program is a 6-hour course designed to expose students to the forensic science used to solve a crime. Students will conduct experiments on fingerprinting, collecting shoe prints, chromatography, composite drawing, facial reconstruction, toxicology, and handwriting analysis. The class culminates in the forensic student team working together to solve a crime.
