Get an inside look at the practice of law — the courtroom, the law firm, the press room and the boardroom — while exploring what working as a legal professional really means. This course provides a broad introduction to the diverse legal world and its various practice areas while engaging with intellectual discourse on civil rights, free speech, and how citizens of a society engage with legal systems in place. Students will explore what motivates lawyers to practice law and consider firsthand whether a life in the law is a fit for them, while simultaneously engaging with the intellectual discourse on civil rights, free speech and how citizens of a society engage with the legal systems in place. Students will also examine the use of legal skills outside of the courtroom and the law firm. Students will delve into a range of non-lawyer careers and investigate how a legal background can be an asset in a variety of fields including business and journalism. This course is intended for students looking to explore pathways into the field of law and to help them discover their passion for one of the many avenues available for working within this field.
