How is it that you or Alexa can distinguish between various speakers? What do these speech signals even look like? How can we model them? Signals are everywhere! Without them, we would not be able to communicate with or understand the world around us. In signal processing, the goal is simple: receive pertinent information from an observed signal for whatever task we may desire. Explore fundamental issues in electrical engineering: how to communicate across a radio waveform, decide whether a speech signal is spoken by a female or male, and identify objects from a radar signature. Investigate the ways signals are retrieved and processed through examples in speech processing and explore many relevant applications. Discover the sensors, processing techniques and visualization methods used in image processing, communication systems (radio and cell phones), and radar signal processing. From surveillance tech to medical devices to social media and more, the concepts you will learn about and implement will provide you with a foundational understanding of how information flows in our digital age.
