Portfolio Workshop (Online)

Create art projects exploring a wide variety of drawing and sculptural mediums to make portfolio-quality work. In this course students will learn to draw and sculpt from direct observation as a foundation to develop their creative expression. Students will explore conceptual thinking and will develop project proposals based on individual portfolio development goals. Materials will include pencil, charcoal, watercolor, acrylic paint, magic-sculpt, wire and assemblage, among other drawing and sculpture mediums. Experimental work is encouraged. The course format will include step-by-step demonstrations by the instructor, group discussions and critique that will encourage development of vocabulary specific to visual art, individual instruction and feedback, and lecture presentations of past and contemporary artists. The subject matter for inspiration will include figure, nature, animals, imagination, music, and more. Students will experience technical processes of art-making through hands-on projects, as well as be able to analyze the subject and form of artworks. No previous experience required. The teacher will encourage students and gear instruction toward their individual level of experience. Please note: Course curriculum and faculty are subject to change.
