This class informs your understanding of interior design and architecture through current professional practices. When we think of interior design and architecture, we tend to think of buildings and the spaces they create. However, inherent to all built spaces are the people that occupy them – in homes, schools, stores, restaurants and businesses. It is in these spaces that we carry out our daily lives. Through sketches, drawings and models, students explore where the ideas come from that serve as the basis for design and consider the impact that spatial design may have on experience. Whether interested in interior or exterior design of buildings, come prepared to explore their relationships and how your design can provide an experience for others. At the conclusion of the course, the work of each student is assembled into a professional portfolio that showcases their design process and final design. No previous experience in interior design or architecture is required.
