Community art projects and murals require a significant amount of research, planning, and collaboration. Students in this class learn the basic dynamics of working on a monumental scale and the processes involved – including subject research, development of proposal concepts and ideation, as well as the final execution of working on large format compositions. With a focus on historically and culturally relevant subject matter, students work collaboratively on the painting of a public art mural project for a business and/or organization in the Milwaukee community and develop the skills to identify and create substantive community partnerships through art-led initiatives.
