The Summer Vet Program is a student’s ticket to the world of veterinary medicine. For students who are serious about becoming a veterinarian, this is a super opportunity to look into the real and sometimes gritty field of veterinary medicine. Through presentation, demonstrations, laboratory visits, and hands-on activities, students discover what modern veterinary medicine is about. Some of the activities of the program include: Examining skeletons and learning how specimens are prepared; Preparing for a career in veterinary medicine; Emergency medicine & first aid; Equine reproduction; Cancer research; Clinical observations at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital; and Necropsy – Please note that this is a real animal autopsy and can make some students queasy. Participants meet professors, practitioners and students in the discipline and have ample opportunity to talk with them. The 2019 schedule can be viewed here. Additional information about CSU’s professional veterinary medicine program can be found on the CVBMS website. The 2020 Summer Vet Program will take place June 22 – 26, 2020 from 12:45 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. at Colorado State University. It is highly encouraged that students combine this experience with the SciTrek Program for a full day of science-based activities.
