What do scientists really do? Join the College of Natural Sciences Education & Outreach Center’s staff in exploring current scientific research activities in a variety of laboratory and outdoor field settings. The week’s activities focus on building the following skills: Understanding the nature of science; Data collection (both in the lab and in the field); Data interpretation; and Drawing and communicating conclusions. Students participating in SciTrek will explore current scientific research from a variety of fields. In the past, topics have included the mountain pine beetle infestation, invasive plant species, dendrochronology, groundwater quality and quantity, geographic mapping, evolution/natural selection, solar energy, etc. The 2019 schedule can be viewed here. Students will receive personal mentoring from first-class teachers, staff and expert guest presenters. Please note that some outdoor field work will include a moderate amount of hiking. This summer camp for high school students has been going strong since 1999. Take a look at our SciTrek YouTube video and our photo album and a news story. The 2020 SciTrek Program will take place June 22 – 26, 2020 from 8:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. at Colorado State University. It is highly encouraged that students combine this experience with the Summer Vet Program for a full day of science-based activities.
