If you like Settler of Catan, Magic the Gathering, or Cards Against Humanity then you'll love this course is for you. You'll discover and study the classics, modern favorites, and hidden gems of tabletop gaming. Board games and other hobby games are a billion dollar industry in their own right, and have a growing influence on the marketplace of digital games. It’s also an arena that has had, and continues to have, tremendous influence on the formal systems, player dynamics, and business models of digital games. A familiarity with a broad range of tabletop games and an ability to critically parse and discuss these games forms a valuable foundation for future success as a game designer. In this class, you will learn about classic and popular genres, convention and trends in tabletop gaming, as well as the tools and techniques that are used to develop, playtest, and produce tabletop games. Discussions in class will include (but not be limited to): Eurogames Licensed Games Party Games Premium Big-Box Games Wallet Games Collectaible Trading Card Games Pencil-and-paper roleplaying Games At the end of the course, you will work with a fellow classmate to produce a simple tabletop game. Using software to organize, produce, and prepare the cards, you will have portfolio-ready card game that is ready for professional printing.
