We live in a golden age of medical technology. New techniques and markets allow us to develop and evaluate interventions at a rigor and pace unknown to past generations. New startups regularly flower out of research in university laboratories, with benefits accruing to both companies and scientists. This course will position students precisely at this juncture, giving them deep perspective on the field and introducing them to the scope, applications, and challenges in medical innovation. They will hear lectures and participate in technology-assisted surgical simulations with Stanford surgeons and scientists. Diving into real-world case studies, discussing with professionals, and observing elite surgeons live at Stanford Hospital operating rooms, will prepare them for their final "Shark Tank" style project in which they develop and pitch their own innovation.
