Be a part of the green revolution by learning to grow tasty food without using chemicals. We will look into what makes healthy soil, how to plant different seeds and how to include bees and good insects in the garden. Everything we will do is hands-on and low technology so that each student can replicate what they learn! Great for any person considering a career in the agriculture field or who just want to know what goes into producing food. You can also take the phase 2 class to learn more and harvest the seeds that you planted during the phase 1 camp. Reach Your Peak is a partnership between colleges in northwestern Colorado with the goal of creating excitement about learning that motivates students toward a bright future and further education. Reach Your Peak starts with summer camps for middle and high school students, continues through concurrent enrollment options for high school students, and finally propels students into college and other postsecondary education. The target populations for this program are students in northwestern Colorado who might not consider going to college as an option - low socioeconomic status, first generation to college, ethnic minorities, children in single-parent households, children living in foster care, learning or physically challenged, or other documented financial need, etc. - but any and all interested students are welcomed and encouraged to participate. The partners include Colorado Mesa University, Colorado Mountain College, Colorado Northwestern Community College, and Western Colorado Community College. The program is also supported by the Northwest Council of El Pomar Foundation.
