Surface water is what recharges groundwater, fills lakes, streams and rivers and the oceans. Surface water from fresh source accounts for a major portion of drinking water in the United States. Today’s fresh surface water in many regions is in serious danger due to contaminants coming from many sources. This course will include classroom and field-based instruction designed to explain the theory and methodology of Surface Water Quality Monitoring procedures with a hands-on component in local streams and lakes. It will have a companion lab that focuses on sample collection, preparation, analysis and reporting.
