Band Camp

The West Texas Band Camp has been held annually for 66 years on the campus of West Texas A&M University in Canyon, located in the Texas Panhandle just south of Amarillo. In recent years, approximately 775 campers have attended the two-week session. The campers make up 9 full bands, 4 for junior high, and 5 for high school. The camp faculty consists of members of the excellent WTAMU music faculty along with leading high school and junior high band directors from Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. Faculty and staff number more than 100. A camper's daily class schedule includes full band rehearsals, sectionals, individual instrument classes, and a required afternoon class and assembly, as well as optional electives at 7:45 am and 4:30 pm. In addition, many activities are offered in the evening hours such as intramural sports, dances, concerts, etc. Campers are housed in several dorms on the campus; WT students serve as resident assistants. Each dorm also has a live-in adult dorm supervisor. Roommate assignments are made based on requests received on this application. In the event that no specific roommate is requested, one is assigned by our staff and, whenever possible, campers are kept together with other campers from their hometowns. If you wish to "meet new people" and not have a familiar roommate, please indicate that on this form. If there is someone you don't want to room with, please indicate that also. Upon receipt of your application and deposit, an information packet, including what to bring and specific activities that are planned, will be sent to you. A $400 deposit is required for residents and a $200 deposit is required for commuters at registration. All-state residential campers may attend for $500; all-state commuter campers may attend at no cost. Residential honor campers can attend for $500.
