Students in grades 10–11 (academic year 2017–18) may apply for the Secondary Student Training Program (SSTP), a 5-and-a-half-week residential summer research program at The University of Iowa’s Belin-Blank Center. Conduct research with world-class faculty at a research-intensive University. Participate in classes, evening tours, lectures, and events that will stretch you as a researcher and scholar. The program concludes with a poster competition and a research conference-style poster session. In this program, students conduct research under the guidance of a faculty mentor. Students will spend approximately 40 hours per week researching a field of interest to them. Social and academic activities will occupy the evenings. The University of Iowa Colleges of Engineering, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, and the Graduate College all participate in this program. During the final week of the program all students will present the results of their research project to the other SSTP participants, faculty, and research staff at a poster session. All students will also write a formal research brief summarizing their five-and-a-half weeks of research. Application process includes: online application, transcript, standardized test scores, 2 letters of recommendation, 2 essays. Financial assistance is available.
