"Alexa, lock the front door and set a timer for ten minutes." Internet of Things devices are transforming our expectations for domestic convenience and manufacturing alike. At the Bosch 1871 Connectory® in downtown Chicago, design and build an Internet of Things device with the goal of taking it to market. This fab-lab intensive builds on basic skills in software and hardware engineering, using professional tools for creating schematics and printed circuit boards. Write firmware in C/C++ inside the ARM Cortex M Microcontroller development environment. Use OnShape and current 3D printing and laser cutting tools to create a bench top prototype. Explore communication tools such as Low Energy Bluetooth, LTE, WiFi, and MQTT, that integrate IoT ecosystems, connecting IoT devices to smartphones, and to the cloud.
