The Flute Academy is available to high school students who wish to devote a week to intensive work on flute-playing skills. Participants will engage in master classes, lessons, performance classes, and recitals. In addition to master classes, each participant will play in a public performance class, and receive one half-hour private lesson. Participants may work on any repertoire of their choice, including orchestral excerpts; though keep in mind, shorter pieces will allow more opportunity to learn and present different styles. To apply for the Flute Academy, please complete the online application along with a $55 application fee by May 1, 2018. In addition, you will be asked to submit a YouTube link to a video recording of two pieces: one piece taken from flute music by French composers (Schirmer), and the other of your choice. One of these pieces, or a portion of it, should be with piano accompaniment to demonstrate intonation and basic ensemble skills. For instance, this could be either the fast or slow movement of the French solo. If you do not have a pianist, we recommend playing Faure: Morceau de concours because of the simple piano part. You also need to include the following: Short resume of your accomplishments, Repertoire list, Letter of recommendation from a teacher/conductor.
