Service Team is a small group of high school students who spend the summer learning how to integrate their lives more fully into God's mission in the world. Participants engage in service and leadership opportunities, small and large group worship and study, a close-knit peer community, and deep mentoring relationships with camp counselors. We hope Service Team campers experience God’s love and encounter Him through all of these experiences. Service Team is one of the foundational programs of HoneyRock and one of the premier camper discipleship opportunities. An application and interview process is required for all participants. The majority of Service Teamers’ time is spent serving camp. By the end of the summer, Service Teamers will serve in several of the following work areas: the kitchen, the barn, housekeeping, auto shop, grounds, construction, the office, and the trip kitchen & locker. Every week a small group will also work off camp on a community service project. All work areas are guided by trained HoneyRock staff. Cabin groups participate in one or more local overnight hiking or canoeing trips to build community, learn skills, have fun, and enjoy creation. Participants have the opportunity to complete intermediate and master achievements in evening activity periods and later serve alongside the activity staff, where they will assist in leading and teaching activity skills toward the end of their summer. Many Service Team participants have spent multiple summers at HoneyRock and are eager to have more responsibility. This program offers more leadership opportunities, which include leading worship services for Advance Camp and 2:22 campers as well as facilitating special events for residential camp. Many Service Teamers will also get a taste of assistant counseling by serving residential camp cabins in their morning activities and routines. Daily morning quiet times, weekly Bible studies, small groups, evening discussions, Saturday large group meetings and Sunday worship are practiced to foster the Service Teamer’s relationship with the Lord and their immediate community. The length of the program allows for trust, friendship, and encouragement to develop between Service Teamers and their counselors. Service Team is one seven-week session that coincides with all the other camper sessions of the summer. There are twelve spots available per gender and participants live in cabin groups of six campers and one to two counselors. Service Team Program registration occurs on a first come - first serve basis, but Service Team also requires a special application and an interview for official acceptance. The application process is intended to help both the program leaders and the applicant determine if Service Team is the best fit. Scholarship applications are available; however, in order to receive a scholarship award, a camper must first be registered for one of our summer camper programs. Registering a child for camp requires payment of the $150 deposit per child. Needs-based scholarship applications must be submitted by April 15th.
