Dordt Discovery Days - Acrylic Still Life Painting (PM class)

Still life is a work of art, which consists of commonplace inanimate objects such as flowers, fruit, bowls, and any other items of interest to the artist. We will focus on the principles of balance and variety as we arrange our own still-life objects. We will follow the steps of “blocking-in” our shapes, identifying values, and using warm and cool hues to create the illusion of three-dimensional objects. Each student will create two original acrylic still-life paintings on canvases. We will spend some time discussing the technique, design, style, and emotional impact of our own still life paintings. Dordt Discovery Days is a five-day camp for students who have completed 6th, 7th, or 8th grade. Choose one morning and one afternoon class. Classes meet once each day, Monday through Friday. Resident cost: Includes Monday through Thursday nights in campus residence halls under the supervision of Dordt's student services staff. Class sessions, all meals, snacks, t-shirt, and evening group recreational activities are included. Fee: $360 A very limited number of grants will be awarded to students who show financial need. Grants are awarded first come, first served with a standard grant covering half of registration costs. Students can submit applications no earlier than April 1, with a deadline of April 22.
