Each day will begin with a safety briefing, followed by interactive classes on the aviation topics to include: Aviation Weather, Principle of Flight, Unmanned Vehicles (drones), Flight Instruments and Navigation, Basic Aircraft Features, Air Traffic Control, Human Factors in Aviation, Maintenance hands on training, and USU Aviation program briefing and Campus Tour. Each of the 30 students will have the opportunity to be at the controls of a Utah State University aircraft with a qualified instructor, and fly our new REDBIRD 3-axis motion simulator and a Regional Jet Simulator. Science: You will learn how airplanes create thrust and lift to fly, and how weather affects aviation. Technology: You will experience the latest in the aviation technology in an actual aircraft, our new REDBIRD full motion simulator and regional jet aircraft high definition flight simulator. Engineering: You will see how airplanes are built, and what is behind all the panels in an aircraft in our maintenance facility, and work with actual tools used in aircraft maintenance. Math: You will learn how to plan a flight and calculate fuel, time, weight, and balance. Meals and lodging are included. The price for the camp is $350.00 and includes all meals, t-shirt, flight and the controls of an aircraft and helicopter, 2 simulator lessons and all the course materials. Participants and parent/guardian will be required to sign a release in order to fly. Aviation STEM summer Camp is designed for ages 14-21 or have completed the 8th grade. Youth in 7th grade can apply with the understanding that this adventure will be fast-paced & will include evening activities.
