This program introduces students to the approaches to economic research and experimentation that make UChicago a world leader in the field. Full-time lecturers in the Kenneth C. Griffin Department of Economics teach classes on topics in macroeconomics, microeconomics, game theory, and field experiments, which are supplemented by guest lectures delivered by preeminent UChicago faculty in economics and other departments whose research applies the tools and insights of the field in new and exciting ways. Participants can apply what they hear about in lectures during small group discussion sections facilitated by a team of outstanding current UChicago students, as well as in labs and site visits to locations such as the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. Participants may apply to one of two sessions, depending on their level of prior preparation in mathematics. Session I – for students who have not yet studied Calculus: Orientation June 17; Classes meet June 18 to July 5 Session II – for students who have taken Calculus: Orientation July 8; Classes meet July 9 To July 26, 2018 Eligibility: Current high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, 14 years and older. Admissions: the Priority application deadline is February 2. Students who apply by the Priority application deadline will have their $50 application fee waived. Any applications received after the Priority deadline will be admitted using rolling admission and will require a $50 application fee. For domestic students, rolling admissions will typically close by early May; this may be earlier for specific programs that fill. Application process includes an online application, writing sample, personal profile, and recommendations. Need-based partial scholarships are available, with the completion of a scholarship application.
