What is Public Relations and why does everyone need it? Understand all aspects of the field and why having a "message" is vital. Hear from great publicists and communication experts from corporations, nonprofits, crisis firms and the political field. Past speakers have included reps from Mars Incorporated, the PR firm-Porter Novelli, Discovery Levick Communications, Neiman Marcus, USA Today, Discovery, and National Geography. Fina project involves working with a team and creating a video on an issue that is important to teens.
Discover the World of Communication is open to all high school students grades 9 through 12, including those students entering 9th grade in the fall. Classes are taught by American University School of Communication faculty and communication professionals. Topics include Scriptwriting and Video Production, Professional Newswriting, Backpack Journalism, International Communication, Entertainment Communication, Investigative Journalism, Video Game Design, 16 mm film and many more. Students will choose two courses per session, one for the morning and one for the afternoon, at a cost of $800 per course. The cost of living on-campus for one session is an additional $1800. Scholarships are available and require the completion of a scholarship application, due by 3/1/2018.
