Interested in pursuing a major in sports media? In this course, students get hands-on experience writing their own material while earning three credits in sports media.
This is an introductory course (Introduction to Sports Media, 3 credits) that investigates global sport media landscape, including areas of print, broadcast, Internet and evolving social media platforms. Functions of media delivery, skills, and attributes required of industry professionals are discussed. Students become acquainted with career opportunities in the sport media field.
Students will be introduced to skills like camera shooting, editing, logging and script writing, PR and storytelling.
Students typically use industry standard equipment, including SONY X70 cameras, Adobe Premiere editing software and an assortment of elaborate studio equipment (switcher, teleprompter, etc.).

Sport media relations
Sport public relations
Sport radio broadcasting (Park studio)
Sport television broadcasting day (Park TV studio)
Sport writing for print/web publications
This course will be taught by Tim Mirabito, Assistant Professor of Journalism and the Sport Media program, housed in the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College. His professional experiences include positions in a variety of local media outlets, college athletics and minor league baseball. Most notably, he worked for WSYR NewsChannel 9 in Syracuse, the Finger Lakes Community Newspapers based in Ithaca, the University of Miami’s (FL) athletics department and the Auburn DoubleDays in Auburn, N.Y.
Tim earned his Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee in 2013 and is an ’03 graduate of IC. He has taught the following classes in the sports media program: introduction to sports media, sports broadcasting, contemporary issues in sports media, sports publications, and sports podcasting.
