Week 1 Drawing on Location Instructor: John Ruggeri Students explore New York City and spend the day drawing from direct observation in parks, city centers and museums. Students learn formal elements of art such as line, space, scale and texture. Aspects of perspective, composition and color will be investigated. Week 2 3D Concepts and Design Instructor: Kevin O'Callaghan It's all about building a three-dimensional design project. Each student is given the very same object. Previous summers the objects have been skateboards, chairs or guitars. Each student is given a word that represents a concept, movement or idea. The students transform their objects into a 3D sculptural design piece that represents their word. It's a lot of work, but the results are always fun and really exciting! These pieces are displayed in the End of Program Exhibition. Week 3 Visual Communication with Form & Color, July 22 - 26 Instructor: Richard Mehl In the third week of the Graphic Design With 3D Workshop, students explore ways of using form and color to create powerful visual communication. Students experiment with handmade and digital techniques, including collage, drawing, stenciling, and typesetting, in the design of original posters, t-shirts and totebags. Our goal is to design and produce engaging and memorable visual communication products. We transform a classroom and computer lab into a design and production studio. Each student experiences a complete creative process, from conceptual development, through design, to final production. Please note: Pre-College courses may include the use of nude models. Course curriculum and faculty are subject to change.
