Illinois Summer Youth Music Session 1: Rock Band

For more than 60 years, Illinois Summer Youth Music (ISYM) has helped young musicians improve their artistry, strengthen their self-confidence, and embark on professional careers. Junior and senior high school students perform with large band, orchestra, chorus, and jazz ensembles or attend intensive, specialized instrumental programs. Students return home with newly developed skills, a lifelong sense of discipline, and in-depth training. Designed for teen vocalists and instrumentalists, this program focuses on developing individual performance skills in a rock band setting and lays the groundwork for writing your own songs. Daily schedule includes band rehearsals, like-instrument classes, improvisation, theory, and rock history. All students are encouraged to explore song writing at their own level. Covering songs will be common. The final concert will feature all bands.
