Mpulse Summer Performing Arts Institute- Vocal Arts (one-week session)

At the University of Michigan this motivating force is MPulse. The University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance is excited to announce its 2017 MPulse summer sessions for high school students. MPulse Summer Performing Arts Institutes on the Ann Arbor campus, inspire high school students to exciting new levels of excellence in music performance, music technology, musical theatre, theatre, and dance. Sessions are designed for students who are considering studying these areas in college. Participants work with distinguished University of Michigan faculty and alumni while experiencing campus life in Ann Arbor. MPulse provides an opportunity for approximately 250 young musicians and performing artists to gain exposure to the rigorous training provided by the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance (SMTD). MPulse participants represent over 41 U.S. States and 6 different countries. Nearly half of all MPulse participants are Michigan residents. During the MPulse sessions, students have the opportunity to meet with SMTD admissions counselors in an information meeting devoted to the application and audition process and to tour the campus. MPulse Summer Performing Arts Institutes are open to high school students completing grades 9-12 during the 2016-2017 school year. Tuition fee includes instruction, room and board, and materials specific to each program. Final tuition payment must be received 30 days from notification of acceptance into the program, but no later than May 1, 2017, or the student’s acceptance may be cancelled. Payments should be made by credit card (preferred method), check or money order payable to The University of Michigan. Students need to arrive on the University of Michigan campus by noon on the first Sunday of their session and must remain through their closing presentation on the final Saturday of their session. Interested students must submit the MPulse Online Application. Application deadlines are specific to each Institute. Please refer to the Key Dates page for details. Plan to complete the entire online application, including payment of the $65 non-refundable application fee, in one sitting. Once the online application is complete, an on-screen confirmation page will provide a link to upload audition materials. The digital audition may be completed in multiple sittings, however some media files may need to be re-uploaded. Audition requirements are specific to each Institute. For applicants applying to more than one session, only one application and fee are required. However, separate copies of all other audition/portfolio materials must be uploaded for each Institute.
